A book of epics

Ranthambore is not just a National Park but also a place of historical and cultural importance. It is home to the imposing Ranthambore Fort, which dates back to the 10th century and offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history.

The Park is skirted by the Banas River in the north and the Chambal River in the south. It’s a semi-arid habitat with thorn and scrub, open grassy plains, and dry deciduous forests. Apart from the short monsoon season, the forests remain dry for most of the year.

Overview

Ranthambore National Park is located just outside the city of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, at the junction of the Aravali and Vindhya Mountain Ranges. It’s easily considered one the best Parks in India for wildlife sightings, aided by the fact that many of the game animals are used to the safari vehicles and don’t scare as easily as in some of the other Parks.

Best time to go

December to mid-March – Dry, cool season

This is the best time to visit the Ranthambore National Park because the days are pleasant, and the nights are cold. Dawn temperatures are known to be the coolest of the day, which means that early morning drives can be chilly until the first hour of sunlight. December and January are the coldest months of the year. March is the flowering season with the Butea Monosperma (Flame of the Forest) trees in full bloom.

There are many ancient stone ruins to be spotted from a distance. Charmingly, many of them are overtaken by jungle foliage and the crumbling arches and steps often serve as ideal hideouts for Royal Bengal tigers.
